Uzabase
Senior Director, Product (Edge dpt.)

As an original designer for the project, I translated abstract business concepts into tangible prototypes and actionable design scopes for the product launch. Following the validation of the MVP through securing a series of significant B2B contracts, I transitioned into the role of Senior Director of Product Design. In this capacity, my responsibilities expanded to defining actionable product features aligned with the project's long-term roadmap, and integrating immediate feedback and product analytics. Engaging in discussions with our clients, I gained insights into their workflows and collected valuable feedback on the product. Leveraging these insights, I facilitated quarterly project-wide product prioritization workshops, along with more frequent discussions, to refine abstract requirements into feasible product features.

Quartz
Product Manager (Platform dpt.)

As the Head of Design and Product Manager for the platform department, I lead product design strategy to redeisgn an award-winning social news mobile application. My responsibilities included defining project goals, ideating design solutions, mapping flow diagrams, and creating exportable designs. Throughout this collaborative process, I integrated user data and qualitative feedback with the product goals to ensure alignment. Additionally, I placed a strong emphasis on keeping individual team members motivated, ultimately contributing to the project's success.

Dow Jones
Sr. UIUX Designer (Innovation dpt.)

In the Innovation department at Dow Jones, amidst numerous partnership and experimental projects, we also the developed and managed WSJ What's News app, more concise version of the full version. While the app gained popularity and high review ratings, its conciseness allowed us to integrate experimental features more rapidly for testing before considering their integration into the main WSJ platform. In the project, I analyzed products and features from other services, engaging in discussions with the engineering team to evaluate implementation costs, and presenting design proposals to stakeholders. For example, when WSJ expanded its video productions, I explored cost-effective design options aimed at boosting ad revenues within our mobile app.

USC Institute for Creative Technologies
Interaction Designer (Virtual Human Therapeutics Lab)

At USC ICT (University of Southern California, Institute for Creative Technologies), the Virtual Human Therapeutics Lab utilizes embodied conversational AI agents within evidence-based mHealth software applications to illustrate the potential role of Virtual Humans in fostering mental, emotional, and physical well-being, as well as facilitating behavioral change. As an interaction designer, I played an integral role in developing UIs and user flows. The application underwent testing with numerous veterans to validate the effectiveness of virtual humans in alleviating emotional distress among military veterans.

floxx
Product Designer

Flockx began as a parking spot-sharing app but evolved into a community events discovery platform. I conducted gig-economy research to shape our MVP, leading to the creation of wireframes for market evaluation. Following several rounds of research, I developed multiple wireframes to assess market fit, with input from management and marketing. Additionally, regulatory feedback was gathered, and potential users were interviewed for further refinement. The resulting prototype reflects three months of iteration.

MetLife
Product Designer

I collaborated with the product manager to enhance the UX design for a complex life insurance onboarding process. Given the highly saturated nature of the Japanese market, the company often chose the market to test new life insurance products. I analyzed competitor products, such as Lemonade, to streamline the flow with concise information on each page. I developed a series of wireframes and an interactive prototype that was used for testing in Japan.

Crafting Developer-Friendly Scalable UIs

2020 - 2022
Uzabase
Head of Design (Edge dpt.)

At the project's inception, designs were crafted using conventional design tools like Figma or Sketch app to elevate abstract business concepts into tangible prototypes. However, our small engineering team, primarily focused on backend experiences, struggled to accurately translate these designs into MVP products. Recognizing this gap, I proposed building a coded prototype in React as a design reference. This approach significantly improved execution quality and reduced our design feedback time by approximately 80%. Leveraging component-based React enabled me to rapidly create various mockups resembling the final products, thereby accelerating discussions on the business side. Nonetheless, continuing to use React as a design tool required unique talents within the design team. As the team expanded, we gradually transitioned to using more conventional design tools.

Quartz
Head of Design (NewsPicks dpt.)

As the founding designer for the NewsPicks department, localizing project for a popular social news app from Japan, I crafted and managed design systems for the app, alongside making UX adjustments tailored for the US audience. The project structure underwent several phases, starting as a joint venture between two companies, followed by one party's buyout, and later into a merger with another project. The most significant challenge involved navigating conversations to enhance and maintain design consistency amidst shifting leadership and audience dynamics, which fluctuated alongside the project's mergers. Through out the process, I engaged in discussions and adopted insights from different colleagues, ultimately leading to the app being featured in the Editor's Choice section of the app store.
